8 Game Mix – Structure of the Game
8 Game Mix is a mixed ring game, available at PokerStars. It’s an innovative mix of the following poker types:
• Limit 2-7 Draw
• Limit Holdem
• Limit Omaha 8 (Hi/Lo)
• Razz
• Seven Card Stud
• Seven Card Stud 8 (Hi/Lo)
• No Limit Holdem
• Pot Limit Omaha
Each table seats six players. Each game retains its own rules. The games cycle through in one of two ways:
• Every level, for tournaments.
• Every six hands, for cash games.
I’ll assume you’re a cash game player for the rest of this article. If you’re not, consider becoming one—8 Game Mix cash tables are super soft. To this end, let’s look at how a round of 8 Game Mix might go.
A Sample Round of 8 Game Mix
You sit down at a table full of fresh faces. The game begins with Limit 2-7 Draw. You play six hands of that, and the game switches to Limit Holdem. You play six hands of that, and the game switches to Limit Omaha 8.
Notice that the games are cycling in the order of the above list.
You play six hands of LO8, and then it’s Razz… And so on.
See—simple. The only trick to 8 Game Mix is knowing the rules of each individual game.
That’s not to say you have to know each game. You can certainly just avoid playing a few variations.
But you’ll enjoy 8 Game Mix a whole lot more if you at least know the basics. Here’s a roundup.

8 Game Mix – Rule Roundup
Limit 2-7 Triple Draw
• This is, obviously, a draw game. You’re dealt five cards, and can choose to discard any number of them in exchange for fresh ones. You can do this up to three times—once per betting round.
• Limit 2-7 is one of the lowball games in 8 Game Mix. That means you’re aiming for the lowest hand possible, not the highest. The best hand is A-2-3-4-5; the second best A-3-4-5-6; and so on.
Limit Holdem
• The Cadillac of Poker’s younger brother. The Chevy of Poker, maybe?
• Shared-board game. You’re dealt two hole cards, and must make the best high five-card poker hand using those and five community cards.
• Don’t forget—in Limit, betting is fixed. No all-ins here.
Limit Omaha 8
• Omaha is a lot like Holdem. Only instead of two hole cards, you get four. You’ve got to use only two of those in combination with any five community cards to make a high hand.
Razz
• Zzar spelled backwards.
• The lowball form of Seven Card Stud. Long story short, you’ll eventually be dealt seven cards; you’ll need to make the best low hand possible using five of them.
• Razz is a limit game.
Limit Seven Card Stud
• My favorite round of 8-game poker.
• Good ‘ol stud. You’ll get 7 cards—some face-up, some face-down—and you’ve got to make a sweet five-card high hand.
No Limit Hold’Em
• The Cadillac of basketball. Er, I mean poker.
• Two hole cards. Five community cards. Make a great high-card hand. Go all in. Repeat.
Pot Limit Omaha
• Welcome to spewville. This is the craziest part of 8 Game Mix, for sure.
• Four hole cards. You can use two. Five community cards. Use three. Make a good high-card poker hand.
• Get ready to gamble, ‘cause this game’s one massive suckout.
